Known across the world for his advocacy of suicide, Royal Oak patrons and staff knew Jack Kevorkian as a kind, elderly man. He’d often stop in the library to do research and use our computers. His patience with people who recognized him knew no bounds.
There’s a big public library literally across the street from my bank and the supermarket where I most frequently pick up stuff like milk and paper towels. Across the street. As in: first I buy Diet Coke, then I dodge one SUV careening around the corner, and I’m there. And yet, until this weekend, I’d never been in it and I had no library card. I know.

Music Series: Big Band Memories (Sat, May 14) Take an unforgettable trip down memory lane with veteran big band trumpet player Bill Hart and keyboardist Alan Gedrick. Their program is request driven and interactive, asking the audience to reminisce about the songs they have requested, why the song is special to them. Recycling 201 (Wed, Apr 27) Presented by Karen Bever, SOCRRA; Claire Galed, Huntington Woods Public Services Manager; and Pam Brady, Master Recycler. This advanced recycling workshop will focus on packaging options (bulk purchases,) pre-cycling and buying recycled, as well as a brief discussion on what goes in the recycling bin. (via ROPL)
